D League - Last 2 Weeks remaining

There is only a couple weeks left in the summer season before the playoffs start. The first 4 teams will be entering the playoffs in a one match elimination game.

If the playoffs started now, these would be the match ups :

(4) Stickmen vs Blue Devils (1)
(3) Hockey Team vs Yokels (2)

5) Misfits are only 1 point back from the Stickmen ... (6) Spartans are 2 points back from the 5 spot. The last 5 teams in the D league don't have a chance to be part of the playoffs.
7) Kings ... (8) Hitmen ... (9) Phantoms ... (10) MidCities ... and last but not least ... (11) Ice Dogs.

Previews for the week of the 17th will be posted on Monday.

The 'D' league playoffs have always included at least the top 6 teams. This screws some of the teams that thought they had a chance.

Hockey Team is supposed to finally be gone from the 'D' league.

Go Hockey Team!

Hockey Team should be removed, it's crap that their in the league. They will just turn it on come playoffs and wax every. What a bunch of punks for sticking around and D-League and not moving up. Know one likes to play against them.

The previous poster is correct. There is not a single 'D' league team that is OK with Hockey Team staying in the league (yes this has been discussed among all teams).

Competitive games are fun. The goal for most teams is to continue to improve and be challenged. It amazes me that Hockey Team can go several seasons, completely dominating many/most 'D' league teams, and continue to come back for more. It is classless and reeks of poor sportsmanship.

They lied about getting right of top players to stay in the 'D' league. Instead, they got rid of their top scorer and replace him with a high school kid ringer. Very classy.

I am sure there are a few players on Hockey Team that are good sports. So, its a shame that they have to be lumped in with the others.

It starts with the team coordinator. The Hockey Team coordinator is the one that should take most of the blame. Instead of other teams looking up to Hockey Team and admiring their team play, they are looked at as a bunch of chicken$hit players that are afraid of a little competition.

Ya know, I prefer playing against the Hockey Team to listening to people complain about them!

Perhaps that means I'm not afraid of competition?

I'm afraid of H.T. and I only know of them from all the whining here and on the S.N.H. blog.

The only problem I have with the Hockey team is the cheap shots they take. They are the most penalized team by a fairly wide margin. That kind of play needs to stay at the Parks Mall when they play there. Aside from that, I look forward to playing them. The competition is the challenge that makes the game worth playing, but the penalties are ridicules. There have been 1638 PIM’s so far in 181 games played. About 9 minutes a game. Not great, but not bad. When you look at there games, in the 16 games they have been in there are 425 PIM’s which is 26.5 PIM’s per game, while the rest are about 8. That says more than anything else as far as I am concerned.

After only 6 games this season, the Warriors in the Euless I-League had 46 PIM's, which is about a full game's worth of bench time... and thats in a 'no contact' league!

I think perhaps it would be better to target your numbers at the individuals creating the havoc rather than the team.

why is there talk about an i league team on the a-d league blog site?

Anonymous said...

Because a link was posted on the I league site to this one for people who play in both. I play on the Beerflyers and we recently moved from Euless to NYTEX because of the Hockey Team. Every other team we played there had sportsmanship, class and an actual D league roster. But every time the Hockey Team played us their super ringer just puck hogged the whole game and skated around our weakest players. We have a mostly over 40 to 50 year old roster and we try to get everyone involved but to just go out and have someone on your team skate with the puck 90% of the game is BS. The fact that we lost didn't play a big role in our leaving but the fact that the league was okay with what they did was BS. AKA padding stats and beating the I league teams that moved up 15-0.

"... and thats in a 'no contact' league!"

Newbie,
I League is 'no checking' NOT 'no contact'. There's a big difference between the two. You should study up before you post again.

Ok. I studied up... No Boarding, no Stabbing, No Checking, no Cipping, no elbowing, no fighting, no interference, no head-butting, no high sticking, no holding, no hooking, no kicking, no kneeing, no roughing, no slashing, no spearing, and no tripping.

AKA: No Contact ('cept by accident due to lack of skating talent).

I brought up an I-League team to say that H.T. isn't the only team with high Sin Bin time... And I am considering D-League (if it gets a stable weekly schedule) and am here to here what the concerns are for the other leagues.

At least I am not hiding behind an 'anonymous' name when I post.

I also asked others that I play i-league with about H.T. I was told they were a team who had played together for a long time, they knew their teammates and their strengths/weaknesses and rarely missed an opportunity when the opposing team made a mistake. I was told "often when we make a mistake, the other team is busying making its own mistakes, and fail to capitalize on it; Hockey Team doesn't miss that chance".

It sounds to me like its a team that is good enough as a TEAM (rather than a bunch of individual ringers) who *could* move up to C-league. What enticement is there to move up to the next league? Better ice time? less cost?

How about the league organizers give people a reason to move up. I myself would be hesitant to move from I-League because in I.L. I at least know what day I have to set aside to play on (Saturday). I am told that the current D-League schedule could be on a Thursday, or a Friday or some other weekday.

Wheres the incentives? I think thats a valid question.

How about decent competition? The thrill of a close game? Playing against players as good as you? Having to create new plays to overcome a team instead of relying on your talent to just out skate around the weaker players? I've been on each side of a blowout and it sucks no matter which side you're on. I would rather lose a competitive game by a couple of goals than beat almost every team by 8-10 goals. And yes the hockey team has played together for a while but you can only get so good playing against teams that are one step up from the I league. I think those are pretty valid incentives.

Why don't you all, as teams, simply do a 'no-show' each time you are scheduled to play HT if it's really that way? Apparently, someone must find it challenging to continue to play against them.

i enjoy playing against hockey team. i'd rather skate hard and lose to the hockey team than get an easy win against the ice dogs.

beating the hockey team is no fun either

as far as individuals to target, that doesnt work. one guy can cause havock amongst everybody by getting players upset by their rough play. the numbers show of 11 teams in the league, when the hockey team is involved over 25% of the penalties are committed by the teams in that game. that means that 75% of the penalties are committed in the other 5 games combined. we have to play 5 times as many games to come up with only 3 times as many penalties. part of that is due to them playing well together, but a lot is due to the cheap shots they take that most other teams dont.

This was actually discussed by several teams. Then, it was decided by Tom and the coordinators that Hockey Team was moving up to 'C' (or out).

Like the other poster said, it is not that much fun playing HT. And, it goes beyond the fact that they are good. HT = penalty filled game.

You guys bring up a good point. We only played Hockey Team twice in 17 games. And, 35% of our PIM were against them.

Anonymous said...

i am 3-1-1 with 6g and 1a with no PIMs. all you have to do is skate hard and put pressure on their d when they have the puck in their zone. they will hook, slash, and hold every time. all you have to do is not retaliate. they really are not that tough. with all of the attitudes i see, you lose the game before it even starts. all you need is just a little focus.

and a lot of skill...

yea...stop whining against hockey team...you havent played against crushing domination until you played Flatliners in FB C league...

pretty much just...horrible

Disagree about the Flatliners. They are good. But, they are not a dominant team in the 'C' league.

Hockey Team has not been dominant lately. But, the feeling is that they are holding back so they can stay in the 'D' league.

Hockey Team had a rediculous run of something like 60 wins and 3 losses over 3 seasons prior to this one. The only losses in that time came when they were shorthanded or the other team had illegally stacked their roster.

see....hockey team is just like every other team....making excuses when the lose!!

about the c league.....it is hard to be competitive when you have less than 10 skaters show up for games....

Flatliners, Hockey Shop and Jokeriet are pretty much insaine...

Jackles are good too.....what about c in euless?

the wolverines defeated hockey team (with full bench) several times the last two seasons. i don't think they take cheap shots, they just play tough. all it takes is an upper level d team with skaters willing to skate 100%. we proved that several times.

....and all you have to do is take the puck from isham and show him how to score
